Fluorite plays a vital role in the manufacturing Industry and major consuming industries are chemical, cement, iron & steel, electrode, etc. It is also used in the production of synthetic cryolite without which aluminium extraction is not possible.

Mainly two grades of fluorite are involved in consumption and trade, namely, the Acid grade (acidspar) containing more than 97% CaF2 and the Sub-acid grade analysing 97% or less CaF2 . The Subacid grade includes Metallurgical (60 to 85% CaF2) and Ceramic (85 to 95% CaF2) grades and is commonly known as Metallurgical grade (metspar). Fluorite production in India is almost minimal.
